Man arrested by ICE same week he began probation, faces reentry charge
Juan Rodriguez Najera was arrested by ICE agents the same week he was placed on probation after pleading guilty to state charges. His probation officer, apparently unaware of his federal arrest, later issued a warrant claiming he had absconded and that his whereabouts were unknown. Rodriguez Najera has since pleaded guilty in federal court to reentry of a removed alien and faces up to 20 years in prison. His case is one of several in New Mexico in which ICE located previously deported individuals through county jail records despite local policies limiting cooperation with immigration enforcement.
