Man hospitalized with facial injuries after alleged ICE excessive force during detention
Jose Mejia Hernandez was detained by ICE agents and says he later woke up in a hospital with significant bruising and swelling to his face. His attorney, Carlos Jurado, said the arrest involved excessive force and reflects a rise in violence and aggressiveness during ICE detentions carried out "in the shadows" without witnesses. Mejia Hernandez is not facing any criminal charges. The incident occurred amid a broader two-week ICE operation in Maryland and Virginia that resulted in 1,328 arrests of undocumented immigrants.
