Over 100 detained as families separated in ICE raid at Memphis nightclub
Federal agencies including ICE and Homeland Security Investigations, along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, conducted a joint enforcement operation early Sunday at El Corralón, a nightclub in the Highland Heights area of Northeast Memphis. TBI said it was executing a search warrant tied to illegal gambling machines and drug activity, but witnesses reported that an estimated 100 to 120 patrons and employees were detained, zip-tied, and loaded onto buses and vans, with some transported to Mason, TN, and Louisiana. Families were separated, with children reportedly crying in the street for detained parents, and advocacy group Vecindarios 901 said ICE initially checked documents but then detained everyone present regardless of immigration status. Advocate Jose Salazar said officers drew guns and mocked people during the operation, and volunteers had to drive to Mason to retrieve released individuals. Memphis Police assisted with traffic and crowd control but said they were not involved in planning or executing the operation. State Rep. Gabby Salinas and immigration attorneys questioned whether the operation exceeded the scope of the search warrant and violated due process.
