ICE ride-alongs with Utah police lead to five detentions near turkey plant
ICE agents rode along with North Valley Police Department officers conducting traffic stops in Moroni, Utah, near the town's turkey-processing plant, resulting in five people being taken into custody. Local officers performed the stops and transport, bringing the five to the police station before handing them to ICE, which decided whom to detain. The arrests followed 287(g) task force agreements signed by the North Valley and Gunnison Valley police departments with ICE in August. ICE confirmed the arrests, calling it part of ongoing nationwide enforcement unrelated to the turkey plant, but did not release the identities of those detained or confirm employment there. The incident spread fear through Moroni's Hispanic community, with families avoiding stores, staying home from work, and keeping children from school. Police Chief Steve Gray said he is reconsidering the department's 287(g) agreement, saying the tactics used 'did not coincide with our values, policies and procedures.'
