Sep 23, 2025Houston, TXMexico

CNN identified more than 100 US citizen children, ranging from newborns to teenagers, who have been separated from their parents due to ICE enforcement actions since President Trump took office in January 2025. The children have been placed in the care of relatives, neighbors, friends, coworkers, and strangers after their parents were detained during workplace raids, at ICE check-ins, or while dropping children at school. The Trump administration removed "humane enforcement" language from ICE's detention policy and is pursuing aggressive enforcement operations that result in parents being deported within days or weeks, often without adequate time to arrange childcare or make arrangements for their children to accompany them.

Guardian investigation documents systemic medical neglect and abuse at Alexandria deportation facility

Sep 12, 2025Alexandria, LA

A Guardian investigation into Alexandria Staging Facility, a private detention center operated by Geo Group in rural Louisiana serving as a hub for Trump administration deportations, documented systemic conditions violations including medical neglect, denial of legal access, and inadequate living conditions. The facility, designed as a 72-hour short-term center with 400-person capacity, routinely held detainees beyond its intended maximum: 20% of over 28,000 detainees held from January-July 2025 exceeded the 72-hour limit, and 742 people have been held there for 10 or more days since October 2023. The facility obtained a waiver of medical screening standards four days before a February 2025 ICE inspection, during which 13 interviewed detainees reported satisfaction despite documented health emergencies including suicide attempts and medical crises reflected in spikes in 911 calls. More than 20,000 migrant detainees passed through the facility's airport on ICE charters at a rate of nearly 200 per day between January and May 2025.

The county is offering alternative funding for schools to host cultural events instead.

ICE systematically violates 12-hour hold room policy during Trump administration deportations

Sep 8, 2025

A CNN analysis of ICE data found the agency has routinely violated its decades-long policy limiting detainee stays in temporary hold rooms to 12 hours. During the first six months of Trump's term, 18% of detainees were kept in hold rooms longer than 12 hours, up from 4% in 2024. At multiple facilities, including Krome in Miami, Baltimore federal building, and New York City federal building, detainees have averaged stays of two to three days or longer, with some held a week or more in crowded spaces lacking basic amenities. An internal ICE audit found detainees lacked pillows and blankets, with staff failing to follow meal-provision procedures. In June 2025, ICE modified its policy to allow up to 72 hours in some hold rooms as an exception. An immigration attorney noted conditions included nine men jammed into converted meeting rooms with only cardboard boxes for bedding. Federal judges have ordered improvements at Manhattan facilities, and a class action lawsuit challenged detention conditions described as crowded, squalid, and punitive.
