Latin Grammy-winning percussionist detained by ICE at Miami airport
Degnis Nelson Bofill Miranda, a 39-year-old Cuban-born percussionist and 2022 Latin Grammy winner for Best Folk Album, was detained by ICE agents at Miami International Airport immediately after landing from a concert in New York. He legally entered the U.S. in April 2023 and has a pending asylum petition. His wife, Mara Delgado, said agents were waiting for him at the arrival gate and described the arrest as shocking and traumatic, fearing she may not see him again if he is deported. ICE said he had violated the terms of his admission and would receive due process, while he was transferred to the Krome Detention Center.
