Honduran trans woman with torture protection deported to Honduras via Mexico despite immigration judge's finding of persecution risk
Andrea, a 34-year-old Honduran trans woman, had been granted withholding of removal under the Convention Against Torture by a US immigration judge in November 2024, based on a finding that she had a well-founded fear of persecution in her home country based on her gender identity. In November 2025, she was deported to Mexico, where Mexican migration authorities detained her at Villahermosa's migrant detention center and then deported her onward to Honduras, where she was handed over to Honduran migration authorities.
