Far-right commentator Milo Yiannopoulos detained by ICE, deported to UK within a day
Milo Yiannopoulos, a 41-year-old British national and former Breitbart News editor known for far-right commentary, was detained by ICE agents at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport on August 27, 2026. DHS said he had legally entered the U.S. in New York City in May 2019 but overstayed his authorized stay, despite previously claiming to hold an O-1 visa for individuals with extraordinary ability. After he failed to appear at an immigration hearing, an immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22. He was held at an ICE facility in Alexandria, Louisiana, before being deported to the United Kingdom on August 28, just one day after his arrest. Far-right activist Laura Loomer claimed on social media that she had reported him to ICE. The swift deportation prompted questions about preferential treatment compared to others who face lengthy detention, which border czar Tom Homan denied, saying ICE is working to speed up removals for all deportees. Yiannopoulos had previously been a vocal supporter of stricter immigration enforcement and mass deportation policies, with past ties to Donald Trump's political movement.
