Mother of Naval Academy Midshipman Deported After Green Card Interview Arrest
Maria Rocha-Martinez was detained by ICE during her scheduled green card interview and deported, separating her from her son, a first-year midshipman at the U.S. Naval Academy who began his service this summer. She had lived in the United States for over 35 years, paid taxes since 1992, worked in the courts, and had been granted parole in place as a military family member before her arrest. She was transferred to the Dilley Immigration Processing Center prior to removal. DHS stated she had a prior deportation and had reentered the country unlawfully, while Representative Joaquin Castro said she was following the legal process and is pressing ICE for information on reuniting her with her family.
