5-year-old U.S. citizen girl deported to Honduras after week in hotel with mother
Génesis Ester Gutiérrez Castellanos, a 5-year-old U.S. citizen who misses her cousins, classmates and kindergarten teachers in Austin, Texas, was deported to Honduras with her mother, Karen Guadalupe Gutiérrez Castellanos. ICE agents acted on an administrative deportation order issued against the mother in 2019, before Génesis was born, and the mother said she repeatedly told agents the girl was born in the United States but that officers 'didn't care.' The pair were held for nearly a week in a hotel about 80 miles from home without a lawyer or hearing before being deported; Gutiérrez has said she plans to send her daughter back to the U.S. with another relative.
