Haitian father detained by ICE outside daughter's Head Start in San Diego
Walto Deshommes was detained by ICE agents just outside a North Park Head Start program moments after walking his 2-year-old daughter into her classroom. Deshommes and his partner, Suze, had a pending asylum case and had been living in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status until the Trump administration ended TPS protections for Haitians in July following a Supreme Court ruling. Their toddler was handed off by school staff to an emergency contact, and Suze said she remains committed to appearing at her scheduled immigration court date despite facing the process without Deshommes.
