Haitian asylum seeker arrested on murder charge in Florida sweep
Whycliff Longin, 28, a Haitian national seeking asylum in the United States, was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff's Office after allegedly breaking into a home in Lehigh Acres, Florida, where a woman was found dead from blunt force trauma and another woman escaped after being strangled. Longin was charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, sexual battery and burglary with battery, and is being held without bond in the Lee County Jail with an ICE detainer. The arrest occurred during a weeklong ICE-led immigration enforcement operation in Southwest Florida involving multiple federal, state and local agencies.
