Mother and young son detained at ICE check-in, face deportation from Maryland
A Mexican woman identified as C and her young son, who entered the U.S. three years ago and registered for asylum, were arrested during a scheduled ICE check-in appointment. Agents made her wait alone for hours, questioned her repeatedly, and issued removal orders for both her and her son before releasing them to await a court date. C works full-time, pays taxes, and is active in her community, while her son is a student who plays soccer and acts as a translator for the family. She was also fined $5,130 despite having complied with all check-in requirements, and the family now faces an initial court date along with legal fees and fines totaling an estimated $20,000.
