Jordanian asylum seeker on hunger strike in solitary at Folkston ICE facility
Eslam Mohammad Ahmad Ananzeh, a Jordanian national who had been seeking asylum while working 12-hour restaurant shifts to help support his family, has been detained at the Folkston ICE Processing Center in Georgia since last December. He was planning his wedding at the time of his detention. Now held in solitary confinement, Ananzeh has not eaten or drunk water for ten days as part of a hunger strike joined by around 500 detainees at the facility protesting health and safety conditions and prolonged detention. His fiancée said he told her he felt dizzy and described the water as sometimes yellow and the food as spoiled-looking.
