Five Mexican men detained after Forest Service rangers alert ICE at Washington campsite
Five men from Mexico were arrested around midnight on September 5, 2026, during a family camping trip at Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest after Forest Service rangers approached them over a reported trash complaint and later returned with immigration agents. Family members said rangers requested and photographed adults' identification before agents identified themselves, first as police and then as immigration officers. Children ranging from ages 1 to 14 were present at the campsite when the men were taken away, and relatives said they could not reach a lawyer or the detained men until after the holiday weekend. DHS said the men remain in ICE custody at a Tacoma detention facility pending removal proceedings, citing prior voluntary returns, a driving-related arrest, and alleged unlawful entry among the cases.
