Haitian woman with torture protection left waiting about 11 hours for medical care in ICE detention
A Haitian woman with protection under the Convention Against Torture became ill in ICE detention. The women detained with her banged on the door and begged guards to let her see a doctor. An officer said that morning he would take her to the medical unit but did not return until evening, about 11 hours later; in the meantime the other detainees tried to cool her with wet towels as she sweated, cried, and suffered severe head pain. At the medical unit staff took her blood pressure without telling her the reading and gave her four pills to lower it. "I could've died in there due to the negligence," she said. "They don't care for human lives."
