19-year-old Venezuelan man beaten by guards after pills found near his bed, ordered cameras turned off during assault
Manuel D., a 19-year-old Venezuelan man, was beaten by guards at Camp East Montana on December 1, 2025, after random pills were found on the floor near his bed. Without asking if the pills were his, guards accused him of hiding and selling pills, yanked him out of bed, and shoved his head against the wall. He overheard someone on the radio order the cameras turned off, which caused him a severe panic attack. He experienced convulsions and lost feeling in his legs. Guards in the solitary confinement unit said he was lying and denied medical care. After approximately 90 minutes of breathing difficulty, staff brought a small inhaler and had to carry him to the medic.
