Louisville mother detained by ICE at green card interview with husband, baby present
Armelle Bondonga, a 21-year-old immigrant who came to the U.S. from the Democratic Republic of the Congo as a child in 2013 as part of her father's asylum case, was detained by ICE on Aug. 12 during her final scheduled green card interview with USCIS. She had voluntarily appeared with her husband, U.S. citizen Terrance Bradshaw, and their 19-month-old child, who is a U.S. citizen. Bradshaw said ICE agents separated the couple during the interview and he left the building with their son without his wife. Bondonga, co-founder of the youth leadership group Future Ancestors, had received a final removal order in November 2025 but was pursuing permanent residence through her marriage, with her husband's I-130 petition still pending. Her attorney, Arianit Osmani, said she had complied with all government requirements and was not evading authorities. Community leader Sadiqa Reynolds, a state representative, and her former high school teacher have spoken out in support of her release. She is currently held at the Clark County jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
