Kentucky State basketball player detained by ICE, denied surgery for leg injury
Amina Seck, a Kentucky State University women's basketball player and graduate student from Dakar, Senegal, was detained by ICE at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport while traveling with her team to a tournament in New York. Seck, who is on a student visa, suffers from a leg injury variously described as a torn ACL or Achilles that requires surgery, but has not received consistent medical care while in custody. Her attorney, Sadiqa Reynolds, said Seck may have missed an immigration-related deadline while recovering from a prior back surgery, though no official reason for her detention has been given. Since being detained, Seck has been transferred multiple times between facilities in Kentucky and Chicago. Her head coach, Amani Williams, has been credited by Reynolds for advocating on Seck's behalf throughout the ordeal.
