Three Guatemalan workers detained in ICE raid at Tallahassee taco stand, business closes
Three Guatemalan workers—two men and one woman—were detained during an early-morning immigration raid on September 25, 2026 at Chile & Chili's Taqueria, a taco stand on Tennessee Street in Tallahassee known since 2018 for its Oaxacan recipes. Surveillance footage showed staff fleeing before officers caught and handcuffed some of them, loading them into a vehicle; the workers were reportedly in the process of finalizing their immigration paperwork. Owner Shannon Tenorio described the detained employees as 'good people trying to make a living,' and said remaining staff quit days later out of fear and harassment, prompting the location to close. The agency responsible for the raid has not been confirmed, though the Leon County Sheriff's Office participates in a 2025 ICE 287(g) agreement. Community members launched a GoFundMe that raised nearly $13,000 to support the detained workers' families, and the Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance planned a rally at the business to protest the raid.
