Mother detained by ICE at Austin school bus stop, son left crying, later released
A woman was detained by ICE agents in Austin, Texas, during what was described as a traffic stop near a school bus stop, leaving her 9-year-old son alone and crying. Video of the arrest circulated widely on social media after being shared by Leonardo Pelaez, with many describing it as heartbreaking. Austin Mayor Pro Tem Chito Vela said the footage showed ICE arresting the boy's mother and called the incident "evil" and "wrong." ICE stated it released the woman about 10 minutes after learning she was the sole caregiver for minor children who may have been left unsupervised, though the agency said it had not confirmed the crying child was related to her. Vela's office later confirmed the child was safe and with family.
