Ecuadorian man says ICE agents beat him after refusing fingerprinting in Georgia

Oct 3, 2026Folkston, GAEcuador

Johnny Sebastián Lucas Barre, a 38-year-old Ecuadorian man held at the Folkston ICE Processing Center in Georgia, says agents handcuffed and beat him after he refused to sign a deportation order and provide fingerprints without a lawyer present. He said three agents threw him against a wall, struck him, and placed a foot near his head until he lost consciousness, later waking up in a wheelchair receiving medical attention and showing visible bruises on his wrists and body. His partner, Leidy Montalvo, said he had been working in the facility kitchen for a dollar a day when agents repeatedly pressured him to sign his deportation paperwork, and she has shared photos of his injuries publicly. Lucas Barre entered the U.S. through Texas in 2024 and was detained again in December after reporting a change of address at an immigration appointment in Orlando, Florida; he has a pending asylum/immigration appeal but no longer has a lawyer because he could not afford to continue paying for one. Immigration attorneys said fingerprints or a signature obtained while someone is unconscious would not be legally valid. Lucas Barre has since filed a federal habeas corpus petition against the facility's warden, which remains pending after the warden moved to dismiss it and his attorney filed a response opposing dismissal.

Man Removed From Minnesota Hospital by ICE Still Lacks Needed Care, Family Says

Aug 24, 2025Bloomington, MN

Adrian Sotelo Guzman, a 27-year-old who came to the U.S. as a child and previously held DACA status, was removed by ICE from M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina while under a court-ordered hold for psychosis related to bipolar disorder, then transferred to a behavioral health facility in El Paso, Texas. A federal judge had approved the Department of Homeland Security's request for his removal despite hospital staff determining he was not stable for discharge, and his family says he was denied contact during the transfer. A newly filed federal petition in the Western District of Texas alleges his mental state has not improved since the transfer and that his family and attorneys have been unable to visit him or hold meaningful phone conversations with him. The petition asks the court to order his release from custody or require the government to justify his detention and ensure proper treatment; his arrest in St. Paul in February occurred during a large-scale immigration enforcement operation.

Aug 23, 2025Silver Spring, MDBrazil

Alice Correia Barbosa, a transgender Brazilian woman, was detained by plainclothes ICE agents on August 23 after being pulled from a car in Silver Spring, Maryland, near Washington, D.C. Video of the arrest showed multiple men unbuckling and forcibly removing her from the vehicle while misgendering her. DHS said Barbosa overstayed her B-2 tourist visa by nearly six years and cited prior arrests for drug possession as reasons for the detainment; a senior DHS official also referred to her by her birth name and male pronouns when asked for comment. She has since been held at the Caroline Detention Center in Virginia, and ICE has announced plans to deport her. Brazilian Congresswoman Erika Hilton called the arrest unconstitutional and asked Brazil's Foreign Ministry to intervene, and the Brazilian Consulate General in Washington said it is monitoring the case and providing consular assistance. Father's truck shot at by ICE agents in San Bernardino, later detained for months

Aug 22, 2025San Bernardino, CA

Francisco Longoria was driving with his family, including his teenage son, in San Bernardino on August 16, 2025, when masked ICE and CBP agents in an unmarked vehicle surrounded their truck with weapons drawn and smashed the driver's window without identifying themselves. Longoria drove away, and agents fired at least three shots at the departing vehicle, with bullets striking near where his son was seated; no agents were reported injured. Federal authorities claimed Longoria drove toward officers and that agents fired in self-defense, while the family disputes this account. Longoria was initially released at the scene due to California's sanctuary policies, but was later charged with weaponizing his vehicle against officers and detained for months before the charges were dropped. Agents later surrounded the family's home for several hours after the family refused entry without a warrant. The family and their attorneys have filed a lawsuit alleging the shooting violated use-of-force policy and a court order against racial profiling, and are requesting a criminal investigation.

Disabled Army veteran ordered released from ICE custody by federal judge

Aug 21, 2025Tukwila, WAPakistan

Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry, a disabled U.S. Army veteran from Pakistan who has lived in the United States since 2000, was detained by ICE on August 21, 2025, when he arrived for a citizenship interview in Tukwila, Washington. Chaudhry served in the Washington Army National Guard from 2001 to 2005 and was honorably discharged due to a back injury sustained during training; the injury left him using a wheelchair and experiencing severe pain. He has been living in Lacey with his wife Melissa and their two children, and has dedicated his post-military life to activism, serving on former Governor Jay Inslee's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment and as president of Veterans for Peace Olympia. Federal officials say Chaudhry failed to initially disclose fraud convictions from Australia in 1996 related to using documents that were not his to open a bank account and obtain benefits; Chaudhry's wife states he was coerced into pleading guilty and was told there would be no criminal record, and that the convictions carried a lenient sentence. An immigration judge denied his bond on August 29, 2025, and his family and advocates have alleged he experienced serious medical issues due to lack of treatment while detained at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma. On December 22, 2025, U.S. District Chief Judge David G. Estudillo ruled Chaudhry's detention unlawful and ordered his immediate release, finding that immigration officials failed to follow required procedures by not notifying him prior to his arrest; the judge ruled he may not be re-detained without written notice and an opportunity to respond, while his removal case continues in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

According to ICE, 29 of the 65 people arrested had been convicted or charged with crimes including kidnapping, assault, drug offenses, weapons violations, and sex crimes. Venezuelan priest detained at Miami airport despite valid visa, later released

Aug 20, 2025Miami, FLVenezuela

Catholic priest Gustavo Andres Santos Higuera (also referred to as Father Gustavo Santos), a Venezuelan national born in Valencia in 1993 who moved to the U.S. in 2012, was denied reentry by Customs and Border Protection at Miami International Airport on August 19, 2025, while returning from an international trip via London, despite holding a valid R-1 religious-worker visa valid through November 2025. Santos, ordained a deacon in 2022, had served as parochial vicar at St. John Neumann Church in Miami since 2023. Archbishop of Miami Thomas Wenski and pro bono immigration attorneys from Catholic Legal Services petitioned a federal court for his release, alleging he was denied access to counsel and asking that authorities be barred from transferring him out of Florida. The Archdiocese called the detention 'unexpected and unjust.' CBP subsequently reconsidered and released Santos, allowing him to reenter the country and resume his ministry. He later announced his resignation from the parish and said he would move to another assignment, surprising parishioners who praised his pastoral work.

Activist faces Trenton court case over documenting ICE activity

Aug 20, 2025Trenton, NJ

An activist with immigrant advocacy group Resistencia en Acción followed federal immigration officers for about 19 minutes while honking her horn to alert residents during an ICE arrest of a community member in Trenton on August 20, 2025. Trenton police stopped and arrested her, alleging traffic violations including failing to stop at signs, illegal parking, and fleeing after officers activated lights and sirens; she was released after a few hours but received multiple traffic tickets, which she is disputing with a criminal defense attorney. The Trenton Police Department has denied coordinating with ICE, though CAIR-NJ says she was arrested at ICE's request, a claim that would conflict with New Jersey's Immigrant Trust Directive barring local police cooperation with ICE enforcement. CAIR-NJ and community advocates held a press conference on September 29, 2026, ahead of her court appearance in Trenton to support her.
