Oct 7, 2026Fresno, CAMexico

Luis Arreguin, a 54-year-old Fresno man who came to the U.S. as a child and has lived there for 49 years, was detained by ICE agents around 5 a.m. on October 1, 2026 while driving to work on Manning Avenue. His daughter, Elaina Salazar, said agents acted without a warrant based on a tip and told her father they knew he hadn't done anything wrong. Arreguin, described by his family as loving and hardworking, has a U.S. citizen wife, four children, and four grandchildren, and was in the process of obtaining citizenship before his arrest. His family held a candlelit vigil in Fresno on October 7, saying the arrest felt like a death in the family. He was later transferred again within ICE custody with no information on when, where, or why, and is held at an ICE facility in McFarland, where he has high blood pressure that has been elevated for days. His detention came amid a surge of roughly two dozen ICE arrests across Fresno and Madera counties that advocates have called an "election surge."
