According to their attorney, the men have no criminal records, have lived in the U.S. for more than 10 years, and have U.S. citizen children. While in detention, they experienced inadequate conditions including rotten food, inadequate medical care, and maggot- and fungus-ridden mattresses. The Trump administration is now asking an appeals court to return them to detention as part of a broader effort to overturn court rulings that have found the mandatory detention policy unconstitutional.

Martha Sias, a Mexican national and green card holder, was arrested by ICE on July 15 in Chaparral, New Mexico during a targeted immigration enforcement operation. According to court records, Sias pleaded guilty in October 2025 to manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance after CBP officers discovered approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in the door panels of an SUV she was driving across the Paso del Norte border bridge in January 2022. She was sentenced to 10 years of probation with 400 hours of community service. ICE said Sias is subject to removal proceedings and will have an opportunity to present her case before an immigration judge.

A Honduran father was detained by ICE on July 18, 2026, in Austin, Texas, in front of his young daughter who has autism. According to the source, the man is now held in immigration detention in San Antonio facing deportation. His wife stated that if he is deported, she and their daughter plan to self-deport to keep the family together.

Alim Garipov, an 18-year-old Russian senior at Bellaire High School in Houston, was detained by ICE at Hobby Airport on July 17, 2026, while traveling with family to visit colleges. Garipov arrived in the United States on May 7, 2022, at age 14 with authorization to remain until November 6, 2022, but stayed in the country after his authorized period expired. He has a pending asylum application from Russia. Teachers and former classmates described Garipov as hardworking, kind, and a standout swimmer who served as team captain. Educator Elizabeth Chapman stated he "has done everything right" and described him as "the kindest, most sensitive boy." Garipov founded the school's Russian Culture Club and worked to learn English. Rosendo Lira, a 59-year-old Wise County business owner and father of five, was detained by ICE after Wise County sheriff's deputies pulled him over for a traffic violation on July 17, 2026, just three minutes from his home. Despite holding a valid work permit and driver's license, Lira was transferred to ICE custody based on a 2020 immigration court order of removal that his family says is under appeal. Lira was preparing for his daughter Bella's quinceañera celebration; Bella was born with Down Syndrome, and Lira has been her primary advocate and caregiver throughout her life. Mohammad Hassani is detained by United States immigration enforcement officials at the Port Isabel Service Processing Center in Cameron County, Texas. Hassani filed a habeas corpus petition seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent respondents from transferring him outside the court's jurisdiction while his case is pending. Jorge Vilchez, owner of Caracas Latin Food restaurant in El Paso, Texas, was detained by ICE on July 16, 2026. A Venezuelan national who arrived in the United States on September 22, 2019, on a visa that expired on March 21, 2020, Vilchez had recently organized a humanitarian aid campaign through his restaurant to collect food, medicine, and supplies for earthquake victims in Venezuela on June 24. According to his family, he has no criminal record and had gained recognition in the El Paso community for his relief efforts and commitment to helping others. His asylum case remains pending before an immigration judge. He is being held at the Otero County Processing Center in New Mexico. His family and friends launched fundraising campaigns, including a GoFundMe, to cover legal fees and immigration process costs, while the restaurant announced it will continue operating during normal business hours.

On July 14, 2026, ICE agents conducted a targeted enforcement operation on residential streets in Laguna Vista, Texas, near South Padre Island. Witness Samantha Alarcón reported that multiple unmarked vehicles with masked agents pursued an SUV at high speed through narrow 20-mph residential streets, nearly running her off the road while she was driving with her son. After the SUV stopped in a home's driveway, the driver and another passenger fled on foot. An 18-year-old U.S. citizen remained in the back seat. Alarcón alleged agents entered a neighbor's yard, drew weapons, and pointed a gun at the teen. ICE said an agent drew his weapon when the teen began reaching into a tool bag after failing to follow orders, and that a knife was later found in the bag. Agents released the teen after determining he was a U.S. citizen. Alarcón drove the teen home, describing him as crying in fear while talking to his mother on the phone. ICE denied a vehicle pursuit occurred but confirmed "targeted enforcement arrests" in the area. Local police officers with body-worn cameras were also present at the scene.

Samantha Weber Alarcón, a Laguna Vista resident, was driving with her son to a movie theater when she became caught in the middle of an ICE high-speed chase through residential streets. As she drove down Mesquite Drive, an unmarked Ford Escape sped past her without sirens, hitting a speed bump so hard that she had to swerve right to avoid collision. She witnessed ICE agents pull a gun on a young man in the backseat of the Ford and place him in handcuffs. Weber Alarcón called 911 and confronted the agents about their dangerous driving, photographing the scene. The man in the backseat was later identified as a U.S. citizen and released. ICE disputed her account of a high-speed chase, claiming they were conducting targeted enforcement and the vehicle was "abandoned." The man disputed ICE's claims about his age and alleged weapon, describing it as a shingle cutter in his tool bag.

Félix Alcorta Rodríguez, a 63-year-old Mexican national, died on June 19, 2026, at Webb County Detention Center in Laredo, Texas, after being found unresponsive in his cell. ICE personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation before he was transferred to Laredo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He had been in ICE custody for only a few days and was transferred to ICE custody after serving time for prior traffic violations. The cause of death is pending autopsy results. The couple had lived legally in Pecos, Texas for three years, working and maintaining ICE check-ins, and sought to leave voluntarily after discovering Edgarianny was pregnant. They say that at a July 6 ICE check-in appointment, after signing forms waiving their rights and withdrawing their appeal, they were arrested and transferred to Dilley instead of being sent home. The family says Edgarianny has not received proper medical care or an ultrasound, and their daughter has said she 'wants to die' while detained, prompting them to seek help from Sen. Katie Britt.

Hebert Kaleth Ibarra Castro, a 20-year-old mariachi musician, was arrested by ICE on June 25, 2026, at a traffic stop in China Grove, Texas, while returning from a musical performance in his mariachi outfit. Castro arrived in the U.S. at age 4 on a B-2 visa fleeing violence in Mexico; ICE claims he entered illegally, though his wife states the visa expired in 2020. Jesús Bracho, a San Antonio father, and his 9-year-old daughter Katherine, a student at Bonnie Ellison Elementary School, were detained near Loop 410 and U.S. Highway 90 on July 1, 2026. As of July 2026, she is detained at Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana. The court denied her motion for a temporary restraining order to prevent her transfer or deportation, finding that such relief would circumvent the habeas corpus process and that she failed to meet the legal requirements for emergency injunctive relief.

Seven more defendants were sentenced on July 1, 2026, for their roles in the July 4, 2025 protest at the Prairieland ICE Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas. Martínez has two sons, ages 17 and 22, who remain in the United States. She expressed devastation at the separation, saying she feels helpless being separated from her children and hopes to reunite with them someday.

Jeny Patricia Mazariegos Garcia is currently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the El Valle Detention Center in Willacy County, Texas. She filed a habeas corpus petition challenging the government's authority to detain her without a bond hearing under 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(2)(A), arguing that mandatory detention without a hearing violates her constitutional rights under the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The Wichita County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with the Texas Department of Public Safety and Electra Police Department, conducted a joint enforcement operation on June 25 that resulted in 24 individuals being detained for unlawful presence in the United States. The boy is being held in a child welfare center in San Antonio while his father is detained at T. Don Hutto Detention Facility in Taylor. Rep. Joaquin Castro reports that ICE initially told the boy he could go home but then reversed the decision, and that the child has not showered and has only been given cookies and juice.

Miguel, 22, was taken into ICE custody while working in Houston. He came to the United States seeking better opportunities and supports himself and his mother. His partner Xiomarah is raising funds for legal representation to fight his detention.

Luis was arrested by ICE for noncitizenship while driving to work and has been held in an ICE detention center. He is expected to be deported to Mexico, a country he has not visited in over 20 years. His family—a spouse and four children including a nonverbal three-year-old and a three-month-old infant—has lost its primary income and faces immediate financial hardship, including potential wage garnishment and credit damage.

Emelina del Carmen Valle Toledo is detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the El Valle Detention Center in Willacy County, Texas. She filed a habeas petition challenging the government's authority to detain her without a bond hearing under 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(2)(A). While conceding she is subject to mandatory detention under that statute, she alleges the application violates her Fifth Amendment due process rights. Adrian Andreas Florian, an 85-year-old German national, died at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas on June 24, 2026, after spending nearly eight months hospitalized while in ICE custody. Iker, a 5-year-old child, has been detained by ICE at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas for over 65 days. His mother is also detained at the same facility. According to advocacy posts by Each Step Home, Iker is not eating while in detention. The posts call for complaints to CoreCivic, the private company operating the facility, donations to commissary accounts for detained children, and calls to congressional representatives to support legislation ending ICE detention of children.

Lesly Yamely Milan Lugo is currently detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the El Valle Detention Center in Willacy County, Texas. She is subject to mandatory detention under 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(2)(A). In her habeas corpus petition, Lugo contests the government's ability to detain her without a bond hearing, arguing that the application of the mandatory detention statute violates her constitutional rights under the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. The court reviewed her petition and indicated it is inclined to deny her request for relief, citing analogous cases. However, the court noted that the Fifth Circuit is currently considering a similar due process challenge in Sosnava Rodriguez v. All five were convicted on terrorism-related charges. Prosecutors pointed to defendants wearing black clothing and using encrypted messaging as evidence. The combined sentences for all eight defendants sentenced that day total 450 years — longer than any sentences given to January 6 Capitol assault participants.

Isaias Jose Rodriguez Manzanares, a Honduran national, was deported to Honduras on June 20, 2026, following completion of a Texas prison sentence and a final removal order issued by a Department of Justice immigration judge. According to ICE, he entered the United States illegally at an unknown time and location. He was arrested by Irving Police in January 2024 for a liquor-related offense, and again in June 2025 on drug and weapons charges. Joyce Basele, a 64-year-old nursing assistant from Kenya who entered the U.S. legally in 2005, was detained by ICE on June 18, 2026, during a routine check-in at a Houston ICE field office. For 14 years, Basele had complied with required immigration check-ins while under an order of supervision with a final removal order in place. She has no criminal history, pays taxes, works as a certified nursing assistant caring for children and elderly adults, and has a U.S.-citizen daughter whose petition to sponsor her mother was approved. Her attorney secured a stay of deportation to keep her in the country while a humanitarian petition is pending, but ICE has refused to release her from custody despite stating she will not be deported. Basele remains detained at a CoreCivic facility and spent her 64th birthday in detention on July 14, 2026.

Jessica Trevino, a 34-year-old DACA recipient who arrived in the U.S. from Mexico at age six or seven and has lived in Texas her entire life, was arrested by ICE agents on December 28, 2025, as she left church with her family in the Rio Grande Valley. Agents rammed the family's vehicle in a Home Depot parking lot, struck her husband Juan with a baton, and shoved her 14-year-old daughter Sarah against the car hard enough to bruise her. After nearly 90 days in ICE custody, an immigration judge granted voluntary departure; Trevino claims she did not consent to this order and did not sign the forms. Despite federal law protecting active DACA recipients from removal and the errors in the judge's statement regarding her DACA expiration date, Trevino was deported to Matamoros, Mexico on March 25, 2026. Her three U.S. citizen children—ages 16, 14, and 13—remained in Texas in the care of relatives. After deportation, USCIS notified her of intent to revoke her DACA status and work permit. Her family has filed a federal lawsuit challenging the deportation as unlawful and seeking her return and restoration of DACA status.

Erick Lopez, a 29-year-old Honduran citizen with no criminal record, was stopped by Houston police for a traffic violation on June 17, 2026. According to his lawsuit, officers detained him for more than two hours after the traffic stop, prolonging it until ICE agents arrived to take him into custody. Lopez, who worked in tile and flooring and was supporting a girlfriend and her two children, was deported to Honduras on June 27. He has filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against the City of Houston alleging that police violated his constitutional rights by unlawfully extending the traffic stop solely to facilitate his arrest by federal immigration agents, and seeking damages and an injunction against the practice.

Fidel Ramos, 52, a previously deported registered sex offender, was captured during a forced-entry tactical raid at a residence in Grimes County, Texas on June 17, 2026. Ramos had illegally re-entered the United States after deportation and was living in the Bedias area while failing to register as required. He was taken into custody on a third-degree felony charge of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender, with an active federal immigration detainer placed against him. The operation was triggered by a newly reported sexual assault of a child case under investigation by local authorities.

Miguel Gorasieta Jaimes, a Mexican national, and Santos Ruben Gutierrez, an El Salvadoran national, were arrested by ICE during a nationwide weekend enforcement operation targeting individuals with prior criminal convictions. Jaimes was arrested in Harris County and had a prior conviction for aggravated sexual assault of a child. Gutierrez was arrested in Lewisville and had a prior conviction for indecency with a child. Both men were in the country illegally at the time of their arrests. The operation targeted 15 individuals across at least nine states.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at an adult entertainment establishment in Pecos and discovered seven victims of human trafficking confined in a padlocked room hidden behind metal storage cabinets. All seven victims were removed from the location and received care and support. During the operation, 24 people were arrested on federal immigration violations and state or local charges, and state charges are being pursued against the business owners.

Alsu and Azat, a Russian couple who fled fearing imprisonment for opposing the war in Ukraine, were detained with their 1-year-old son Amir after crossing the southern border and presenting themselves at a legal port of entry. During four months of detention at Dilley in 2025, Amir withdrew and began hitting himself in the face, with his speech development slowing until he stopped saying anything other than 'mom' and 'dad.' The facility lacked toys for toddlers and books in Russian. Staff forced Alsu to wean Amir off formula, claiming he was too old, and Amir suffered fevers and stomach problems while detained. Alsu resorted to sucking spicy sauce off noodles to feed him and hiding cereal in socks and hoods. Azat alleges CoreCivic employees threatened to separate the parents and send Amir to foster care if they stopped complaining. The family was released in January under supervision. ICE has detained more than 500 infants and toddlers under age three since January 2025.

A 7-year-old boy appeared in immigration court to request reunification with his father, who had been detained and deported to South America. The immigration judge approved the boy's voluntary return within 60 days at government expense with child safety protections. The hearing is part of a pattern of fast-tracked immigration court cases involving minors under the Trump administration, with attorneys reporting violations of the 10-day notice requirement and compressed timelines.

Arelys Barahona-Martinez, a 40-year-old Honduran national, was detained by ICE on June 10, 2026, during a routine scheduled check-in appointment at an ICE office in Dallas, where she had been checking in without incident for years.
