Immigration judges issue 100,000+ deportation orders in accelerated hearings

Jul 27, 2026 · Chicago, IL

The second Trump administration recorded its highest immigration arrests last month, driven largely by accelerated mass hearings in immigration courts across the U.S. In June alone, over 100,000 immigration cases were closed, with more than 78% ending in deportation orders. Many immigrants received removal orders without attending hearings or receiving proper notice of rescheduled court dates, with a single Chicago judge overseeing 185 cases in one sitting compared to a typical 20.
