Roberto Mosquera del Peral, a Cuban man who arrived in the U.S. as a child during the 1980 Mariel boatlift and built a life as a plumber, husband, and father of four daughters, was deported to Eswatini in mid-July as part of the Trump administration's third-country deportation program. He has been held at Matsapha Correctional Complex, a maximum-security prison, for more than three months without being charged with any offense or given access to legal counsel. His lawyer reports he is on a hunger strike with serious health concerns, and civic groups in Eswatini have filed court cases challenging the legality of holding him and other deportees in prison without charge.
