Carlos Tellez Sánchez, a 35-year-old Venezuelan man living in Texas, was deported to Liberia after more than seven months in ICE custody. He was detained after attending a routine immigration check-in appointment in December, despite holding a Withholding of Removal order and having an active habeas corpus petition pending in a federal court in southern Texas. His third child was born while he was detained, and he has only been able to see the baby through a video call. Family members say Tellez, the family's main provider, was placed on a flight to Liberia with 19 other deportees, several of whom were restrained after resisting the transfer, and he is now staying at a hotel there while deciding whether to seek asylum or travel elsewhere.
