U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have detained more than 50 employees of Premier Packing in Lynden, Washington since March, in what a local nonprofit calls the first 'soft raid' in Whatcom County. On July 22, workers were reportedly lured toward a van offering free water before ICE agents emerged and chased employees who approached. The business owner said he believed agents 'set a trap' to target one employee and that many detained 'haven't done anything wrong.' A volunteer monitoring ICE activity said agents in unmarked vehicles have also surrounded workers' cars during commutes, with arrests rising from two to four per week to as many as two per day.
