Juan Miguel Aldape, a Newberg, Oregon resident who has lived in the state for 22 years, was detained by masked federal immigration agents in a Lowe's parking lot in McMinnville while buying materials for a construction job. His family describes him as a devout Catholic and taxpayer who serves as primary caregiver for his youngest son, who has autism. Agents took him to an ICE processing center in Portland, then to the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, and ultimately to the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana. His family says he was arrested without a warrant, which they and advocates argue violates a February federal court order blocking warrantless ICE arrests in Oregon, and relatives say they were unable to contact him for over a week and received conflicting and dismissive information from facility staff about his whereabouts.
