Salvadoran TPS holder packs up desk as her decades-long protection nears expiration

Location: Marshall, MO

Country of origin: El Salvador

Alma Sandoval, a Salvadoran immigrant who has lived in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status since childhood, is preparing to leave her job at a Cargill meat processing plant as the program's expiration approaches. An estimated 170,000 Salvadoran TPS holders and their 150,000 U.S. citizen children face losing work authorization and possible deportation. The Trump administration has been terminating TPS designations for various countries, following a similar move affecting roughly 300,000 Haitians earlier this year.
