Sep 15, 2026·Location: Fairfax, VA
Country of origin: Honduras

ICE arrested Oscar Evaristo Nunez, a Honduran national who entered the U.S. near Arizona around 2003, during a targeted enforcement operation on September 15, 2026. Nunez had been arrested by local authorities in August 2025 on child sex crime charges, and ICE lodged a detainer with the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center two days later, but the county released him without notifying the agency. DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin criticized Fairfax County's sanctuary policies following the arrest. Nunez remains in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings.
