ICE reportedly uses banned NJ warehouse as secret detention site
Oct 8, 2026·Location: Roxbury, NJ
A former warehouse in Roxbury, N.J., was purchased as part of a billion-dollar DHS plan to convert 11 warehouses into ICE detention facilities, but a court order bars its conversion to detention use pending an environmental assessment. A government contractor told NPR that White House adviser Stephen Miller wanted the facilities to be deliberately uncomfortable, even after his company proposed more humane FEMA-style camps as an alternative; the White House called the allegation false and defamatory. Despite the legal block, NPR found evidence the Roxbury site is being used to hold detainees, and New Jersey's attorney general said the state is investigating similar reports.
