Filipino singer Mark Mabasa remains in ICE custody as hearing delayed to Nov. 5
Oct 2, 2026·Location: Los Angeles, CA

Mark Mabasa, a 40-year-old Filipino singer and son of slain Philippine broadcaster Percy Lapid, has been held by ICE at the Adelanto Processing Center in Southern California since he was detained at LAX on September 21, 2026, after returning from a performance in Chicago. Mabasa fled to the U.S. in February 2023 after receiving death threats following his father's assassination, later sought asylum, and holds work authorization, according to his uncle, journalist Roy Mabasa. His immigration hearing, originally set for October 2, was rescheduled to November 5, extending his detention by at least another month. Advocates from Tanggol Migrante Movement rallied outside the Adelanto facility to demand his release, and Human Rights Watch and Philippine Senator Risa Hontiveros have called for his case to be reviewed fairly.
