Federal immigration agents staked out the Taskers Chance neighborhood in Frederick, Maryland for about 40 hours before clashing with protesters on Friday night. Community members had gathered to observe the operation, and when agents drove vehicles onto sidewalks where observers stood, some protesters sat down and linked arms to form a human barrier in front of a targeted home. Agents then used batons and physical force to drag protesters away before entering the house; a couple of people were injured, no arrests were made, and no one inside the home was detained. The clash followed a recent surge in ICE enforcement in Maryland, where agents reported arresting over 1,300 people across Maryland and Virginia in a two-week period in August.
