Leonardo Sandoval, a Mexican national who says he is in the country legally, was stopped by masked ICE agents in Madera early on October 13, 2026, after they followed him from a gas station. Sandoval said the stop was random and that agents targeted him "because I look some type of way." Residents and immigration advocates described the incident as part of a broader pattern of appearance-based stops across the San Joaquin Valley that week.
