Sabina Carmona-Lorenzo, an Omaha woman who had lived in the United States for more than 20 years, was detained by ICE agents during a June worksite raid. She and her husband have five children, all U.S. citizens, including three minors, one in college, and one serving in the military. After an immigration judge granted her release on bond in July, ICE filed an automatic stay unilaterally blocking her release, prompting the ACLU of Nebraska to file a federal civil rights lawsuit arguing the stay violated due process. A federal judge ruled from the bench ordering her release on bond, making her the third ACLU of Nebraska client to leave ICE custody in the last two months.
