Elsy Noemi Berrios, a 52-year-old Salvadoran asylum seeker and single mother of four, was arrested by federal agents in Westminster, Maryland, on March 31 while driving to work with her daughter. Cell phone video shows her refusing to exit the car and asking to see a detention order before officers shattered the driver's side window, pulled her out, and handcuffed her. DHS has publicly alleged she is an associate of MS-13, but her attorneys say the agency has not provided any evidence to substantiate the claim, and a public records search found no criminal history. Berrios had a pending asylum petition with a renewed work authorization and worked at a custom clothing manufacturer; she remains detained at an ICE processing center in Pennsylvania awaiting a bond hearing.
