A 31-year-old Peruvian man has been held at Delaney Hall, a privately run ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, since February 2026. His wife told reporters that detainees, including her husband, have been served rotten food, including a meal containing live worms, green sausages and chunky milk. His situation was described publicly during congressional oversight visits in May 2026, when lawmakers corroborated complaints about inadequate medical care and poor food quality at the facility. He was among hundreds of detainees who later joined a hunger and labor strike beginning May 27, 2026, protesting the worm-infested food, forced labor, oppressive heat and alleged sexual misconduct by a guard.
