The Dominican Republic has escalated deportations of Haitian women and children, with more than 130 removed from hospitals, including about 48 pregnant women and 39 new mothers, under President Luis Abinader's policy requiring patients at 33 public hospitals to show identification and proof of residence. Migrants in border towns like Fruisa and Dajabón describe armed nighttime raids in which people are forcibly removed from homes and shelters and taken to the border. On April 24, more than 200 additional women and children were rounded up near Ouanaminthe, Dajabón, and Malpasse, part of a group of over 1,000 deportees sent across the border, many arriving with only the clothes they wore. The United Nations and human rights groups have said the expulsions endanger lives by cutting off access to medical care.
