DHS Billing Unaccompanied Immigrant Teenagers $5,000 Fines

The Department of Homeland Security has sent $5,000 fines to unaccompanied immigrant teenagers ages 14-17 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act for unauthorized entry into the United States. Roughly 10 teenagers in New York and at least one in Michigan have received the fines while in federal custody. The fines carry consequences including collection litigation and impacts on immigration cases.
