Joseluis Ramirez, who moved to the U.S. from Mexico as a teenager and spent 15 years working at the same Yakima Valley fruit company, was detained by ICE and is being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma. His wife, Vanessa Jimenez, and their children are U.S. citizens who have lived in the Yakima Valley their whole lives; the family had been working with a Seattle attorney to pursue legal status for Ramirez. He has no criminal record, and Yakima recorded more ICE arrests than any other Washington city between March and August, with fewer than a quarter involving people with criminal convictions. Ramirez is the family's sole provider and also pays child support for Jimenez's stepson.
