Five foreign nationals arrested in ICE enforcement operation targeting individuals with criminal convictions

Federal immigration authorities arrested 15 people over a weekend in an interior enforcement operation. Those arrested included Martin Gutierrez-Gaona (Mexican citizen, convicted of evading police, drug possession, forgery, and assault with a deadly weapon in Los Angeles); Carlos Augusto Melendez-Reales (Colombian citizen, convicted of cocaine trafficking conspiracy in Tampa, Florida); Carl Winston Ellis (Jamaican national, convicted of drug possession with intent to distribute and illegal re-entry in Las Vegas); Jose Daniel Lara-Zavala (Mexican citizen, convicted of driving under the influence and homicide in Wilson, North Carolina); Odelio Lopez-Lopez (Mexican national, convicted of burglary, child cruelty, wife cruelty, and domestic assault in California); and Natanio Jimenez-Garcia (Mexican citizen, convicted of aggravated rape and fraud in Louisiana). Nine others were also arrested with convictions for child sex crimes, assault with a deadly weapon, and witness tampering. The arrests are part of the Trump administration's expansion of interior immigration enforcement.
