Nebraska Work Ethic Camp Converted to ICE Detention Center, Now Operational

Dec 7, 2025 · Nebraska, NE

Nebraska's Work Ethic Camp, a minimum-security prison focused on rehabilitating nonviolent offenders, was converted into the Cornhusker Clink, a 280-bed ICE detention facility that became operational in November 2025. The conversion was authorized through a three-year agreement between Governor Jim Pillen and the Department of Homeland Security announced in August 2025. All 186 inmates previously housed at the facility were transferred to other locations to make room for immigration detention operations. Several lawsuits attempted to block the opening, but a federal judge allowed the facility to proceed, and it officially began operations on November 9, 2025.
