Sioux Falls Latino Festival and Parade canceled over ICE fears

The South Dakota Hispanic Chamber of Commerce canceled the 3rd annual Latino Festival and Parade, citing ICE concerns and Operation Prairie Thunder. CEO Selene Zamorano said 'We have been very scared.' Hispanic people from across the state began avoiding Sioux Falls for fear of racial profiling, even those with legal status. Montgomery County canceled its second annual Hispanic Heritage Festival scheduled for Wheaton, citing concerns about community safety amid increased federal immigration enforcement. County officials said fears of ICE enforcement activity were "palpable" among local businesses, nonprofits, and community partners, who worried the public gathering could become a target for immigration enforcement. The county is offering alternative funding for schools to host cultural events instead.
