Nebraska signed a two-year contract with ICE on Sept. 30 to convert its Work Ethic Camp prison in McCook into a federal immigration detention facility, with a 183-page agreement covering both male and female detainees. ICE will pay Nebraska at least $2.5 million monthly, including a $269.17 daily rate per detainee, plus a one-time $5.9 million payment for facility renovations; the state projects about $14.25 million in net annual revenue, with minimum payments rising 3% in year two. Governor Jim Pillen's office expects detainees to begin arriving before November, and the facility could operate under this arrangement for up to five years.
