Nebraska lawmakers tour McCook ICE detention facility holding 100-150 migrants

Dec 15, 2025 · McCook, NE

Five Nebraska state lawmakers toured the McCook ICE detention facility, which converted from the Work Ethic Camp state prison. Lawmakers reported the facility held between 100 and 150 migrants, all men from countries including Russia, India, Somalia, Mexico, and Guatemala, and described conditions as orderly and clean with access to visitors and legal resources. State Sen. Margo Juarez, the sole Democrat on the tour, expressed continued opposition to the facility's existence and federal immigration enforcement tactics.
