Mario Guevara, a journalist with a valid work permit who lived in the United States for nearly 22 years, was arrested while covering a protest in Doraville in June 2025 and deported to El Salvador in October 2025. After his deportation, Guevara continued working as a journalist, reporting from Central America and being invited to speak at international press freedom conferences. His family remained in the United States following his deportation.
