Border Patrol agents walked onto Rheba Hamilton's front lawn on Saturday to question two workers who were installing Christmas lights, demanding to see papers and asking if they were American citizens. The agents left without making an arrest after about two minutes, but the encounter left Hamilton and the workers shaken. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents conducted a five-day enforcement operation in Charlotte beginning November 15, 2025, arresting more than 370 people in what officials called "Operation Charlotte's Web." The sweep targeted Charlotte's immigrant-heavy corridors and also extended to Raleigh and other cities. Border Patrol agents departed Charlotte on November 20, though the Department of Homeland Security stated the operation was not ending and would continue through other means. Local officials including Mayor Vi Lyles, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed the Border Patrol's departure from the city.
