A vigil was held in Springdale, Arkansas on Friday night to protest increased ICE enforcement activity in northwest Arkansas under 287(g) agreements. Data shows more than 450 people were arrested by ICE at the Benton County Jail alone from January through October 2025—nearly two arrests per day in a county of roughly 300,000 people. Community organizers report that many arrests involve people with no criminal records or only misdemeanor charges, and that individuals are being arrested while commuting to and from work, separated from their families. The Arkansas Department of Corrections signed a 287(g) agreement in 2025, and Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a law requiring all county sheriffs to cooperate with ICE.
