57 people arrested in three-day ICE sweep across Wisconsin, immigrant advocates dispute criminal claims
Jun 30, 2026·Location: Milwaukee, WI
Between June 29 and July 1, 2026, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 57 people across Wisconsin in one of the largest enforcement operations in the state since President Trump returned to office in January 2025. ICE officials claimed many detainees had criminal histories including sexual assault, intoxicated driving, drug trafficking, and domestic abuse, but Wisconsin Watch, the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service, and immigrant rights advocates from Voces de la Frontera could not independently verify these claims and disputed the agency's characterization, stating the vast majority of those targeted had no criminal histories. Arrests were reported in Milwaukee, Greenfield, Madison, and Wisconsin Dells, with witnesses describing violent scenes including agents breaking car windows and separating families. Detainees were held in facilities across Wisconsin, Illinois, and as far as Florida. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 39 people across Wisconsin over the final weekend in June 2025, marking one of the largest enforcement operations in the state since President Trump returned to office. ICE claimed many had criminal records including convictions for sexual abuse, driving under the influence, and drug possession, though Wisconsin Watch could not independently verify these claims. The operation prompted advocacy group Voces de la Frontera to report more than two dozen arrests primarily in and around Milwaukee, with additional arrests in Fitchburg. Detainees were held in facilities across Wisconsin and Illinois, with some as far away as Florida. The operation represented a departure from standard ICE tactics in Wisconsin, which typically focused on arrests in prisons, jails, courts, and the DHS field office.
